The importance of the Fourth Trimester in normal growth and development in human babies underscores the importance of the nutritional and nurturing offered by breastfeeding.

While breastfeeding is normal and natural, many women do find it difficult and/or painful to get breastfeeding well established, and may run into problems such as sore nipples, fussy babies, engorgement, bacterial or yeast infection. Thankfully, most of these problems should be avoidable or if they start, can quickly be corrected with information, guidance and support.

In Copenhagen , Four Trimesters offers a breastfeeding counselling service, in the form of classes before the birth or consultations after baby has arrived. Classes are conducted either privately or in small groups, and topics can include: preparing for breastfeeding, breastfeeding in the first 6 weeks, overcoming common difficulties, and continuing breastfeeding when going back to work.

A consultation can be arranged after baby has arrived if the new mother & baby find they need some help with sore nipples, latching on, positioning, engorgement, mastitis, or other difficulties.

Other concerns may include worries about not producing enough milk, a baby who feeds constantly or who doesn't seem satisfied after a feed, a sleepy or fussy baby, expressing milk, or pressure to supplement with formula.

Typically breastfeeding consultations last for about 1.5 hours. A consultation visit can be made to our Lactation Consultant who also makes home visits.
